Since its inception in 1995, WAWA has partnered with members of the West Atlanta community to protect greenspaces and water quality in West Atlanta, while educating the public about environmental issues that affect their community.
WAWA honored at Emory University's 17th annual MLK Community Service Awards Program

On the night of January 22, 2009, WAWA was honored at Emory Universityʼs 17th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Ceremony. The event was sponsored by the Rollins School of Public Health and the Goizueta Business School to recognize and celebrate people and organizations in greater Atlanta whose work exemplifies the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. WAWA was among 8 other local organizations recognized for efforts on behalf of the community.
On Monday January 19, 2009, WAWA facilitated its annual service day commemorating the values and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.Opportunities were provided for service learning in the urban forests of southwest Atlanta, and invasive plant species were removed. Assistance was provided from several local organizations. Ecoaddendum, Trees Atlanta, USDA Forest Service, National Park Service, Keeping it Wild and Park Pride served as facilitators and crew chiefs leading native plant identification and preservation, work crews, a children’s activity corner, and guided hikes.
Fulton County Commissioners Honor WAWA for the 2nd year in a row

On November 18, 2008, WAWA was honored for the second year in a row by the Fulton county Board of Commissioners at a recent meeting. WAWA's work with with residents in the Utoy, Sandy and Proctor Creek watersheds and residents was recognized as being exemplary and inspiring. Bruce Morton, Saundi Wilson, Louversia Wiggins and Na"taki Osborne were on hand to accept the proclamation and plaque.
