At the end of 2001, the City of Atlanta acquired the just over 160 acres of two Greenway/Greenspace areas known as the Lionel Hampton Beecher Hills Nature Preserve.  The acquisition brings the total amount of Greenway/Greenspace area acquired since late 1999 to approximately 330 acres for a total expenditure of $6.35 million.  Atlanta has utilized multiple sources of funding to acquire the Greenway/Greenspace properties, including $2.7 million from the Consent Decree SEP Greenway Account, $986,000.00 from the Georgia Greenspace Program, and $1.37 million from other City funds.   This accomplishment a tremendous boone for the Atlanta and marks just the beginning of the City's Greenway/Greenspace acquisition program.  Atlanta's Greenway/Greenspace program made great progress in protecting water quality and the environment within the City and other surrounding jurisdictions.
